Get Hooked on Fishing was established in 2000 as a Durham based Project to engage young people at risk of exclusion. At that time it had the unique advantage of using the activity of angling to combat forms of social exclusion amongst young people.

Shimano has actively supported and promoted Get Hooked since 2001 with continuous involvement with Dave Smith (Crewe Project Leader, GHOF) - recently supporting a junior special needs 'fish-in' - run by Dave and his wife, Mandy. All children enjoyed a successful days fishing, resulting in a catch of several good carp and bream all on a 4m pole and received a Shimano goodie bag for their efforts.
