Other Reel Questions
1. How and when is it best to perform maintenance on my reel or rod?
2. Why don't I get sufficient drag pressure?
3. Why is my spinning reel making noises under load?
4. Why are my external moving parts becoming stiff?
5. Why is my lever drag stuck in the strike position?
1. How and when is it best to perform maintenance on my reel or rod?
Reels are to be sprayed with a water dispersant spray such as Inox or Ballistol; or lightly sprayed with an atomiser bottle with fresh water before being wiped dry.
2. Why don't I get sufficient drag pressure?
The drag system may require repair or if you are using GSP (braided Gel-Spun Polyethylene) line, a layer of nylon monofilament or suitable tape should be applied before spooling to avoid slippage under pressure.
3. Why is my spinning reel making noises under load?
Reels with line roller bearings may feel rough and make noises if the bearing is not adequately lubricated - to aviod, apply special reel oil to the bearing regularly. Dirt, sand and grit can also cause parts to grind and makes noises - ensure you remove these particles throroughly after fishing.
4. Why are my external moving parts becoming stiff?
All external moving parts (ie.bail assembly, handle) need to be sufficiently lubricated otherwise they can corrode and seize. Regular oiling will prevent this.
5. Why is my lever drag stuck in the strike position?
This occurs when the preset knob is backed off too much and not reset in the free-spool position. When locating the drag lever onto the reel it has to be reassembled in the free-spool position.
